Adopt your favourite Surrey green road!

Postby stevent » Mon Feb 22, 2016 7:59 pm

Hi guys

We all love our green roads, so following the example set by other TRF Groups, I propose we have an informal scheme for us to each 'adopt' a green road.

The idea of this is to get more of us involved in looking after routes, and for those of us already doing stuff, to raise the visibility of this.
What would you have to do? Well my suggestion would be (and happy to discuss this further):-
- to do a visit once a year to check the condition of the route, and take a few photos. I'm happy to collate all the pieces together and will put them in a dropbox.
- to make sure any finger posts have our TRF-developed 'open to all users' byway sign on them.
- if problems or issues crop up, to do anything you can to help sort them out.
- keep tabs on any GL£AM activities and/or keep a note of any incidents.
Pretty straightforward?
If we get this off the ground then its another way to show that we are responsible and keen to protect green routes for all users, which will be invaluable if the GL£AM anti-brigade get going again, trying to close routes.

So, if you think its a good idea then tell me what your favourite green road in Surrey is and its yours for adoption! Also please let me know if you are NOT happy for your name/email to be shared with other adopters.

I'll also bring a specially prepared map and list to club night tomorrow for more adoptions. And happy to take on feedback on this idea.

A great response at club night last month. The following lanes have been adopted by the following members. I will write out to everyone after the next club night when I hope a few more will sign up. If you would like to adopt a lane please post a response to this thread or drop me a line with details of which lane you want to adopt.

Thanks!

Don't worry about the numbers if you can name or describe the lane

But if you do want to look them up then click here

I put my name down for Ride lane, farley green, so will add this to my list. both this and ponds are on my way home and to work, so I ride them quite often-

the other important lanes that always get councillors attention and need adopting are beggars, sheepwalk, silkmore and green lane in W Horsley, London Lane,( I will take this last on too as its in Shere parish council's area, and I am hot on their case there at all times , long-term ongoing issues) and the Coldharbour lane, the one off Wolvens which runs up past cricket ground.

Hi All
Still looking for volunteers to adopt Surrey byways.
I've now created an Excel spreadsheet (attached).
I will get on to issuing some guidance and tips for those adopting byways, along the lines as per my original post i.e. nothing onerous. (Sharpie's Rule: TRF must not be like going to work.)
It would be great to get some more names against lanes, I will bring the maps to club night on Tuesday.
Cheers
Steven

Hi, Can you put me down for 21A. This I believe is the nice stony run up from Farnham lane in Haslemere that meets the cycleway (byway 500). I had my eye on 501 which is a nice sandy run around the top of the devils Punch bowl but this one is already nabbed, not to worry i'll be happy with the stony path as I live 2 minutes away from the start of this one.

Does it make any difference that many of the Haslemere and Thursley routes are on National Trust land, do we get any support from the National Trust?

Peter.
