Long Distance Trial - what's all that about then?

Postby GDAS » Fri May 30, 2014 11:30 pm

I recently did the Taunton MCC Jubilee Long Distance Trial, it takes place each May in the Brendon Hills, Somerset. Those of you who have done the Somerset TRF Exmoor days will be familiar with the area. The Taunton club which runs the event has some great relations with local landowners - of the 80 mile route approximately 45 miles was off-road. Pretty much all 28 sections were on private land; a few byways/UCRs were used to get round the course but the majority of the unmetalled stuff was on private land. It helps when doing these events if you're on a 'cheater' bike such as my GasGas Pampera but it's by no means necessary - the winner was on a Honda CRM250.

One of the competitors (riding a Yamaha WR200) has uploaded a 10 minute Youtube video showing all 28 sections which gives you an idea of what they're like: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fejVUWjZ-PU

Looks like a great day. Some of those sections look pretty challenging.

Fantastic, excellent find on the video Graham! More than a bit sorry that I missed this event now, next year I hope.
Looking forward to the Swindonian in a couple of weeks time though.
