Plea to visitors to respect the Surrey Hills
The Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) is currently receiving a higher than usual amount of visitors to the area.

We want to re-iterate our message that this is not the time to travel to visit the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).

Many public facilities and car parks remain closed or require booking in advance.

Car parks and beauty spots congested
We are aware that many visitors who love to walk and cycle will have greatly missed the Surrey Hills but our local beauty spots such as Box Hill, Reigate Hill, Leith Hill, Frensham Ponds and others have become overun. We urge you to please check the situation with car parks before travelling and, if deciding to travel, be considerate to the local communities by parking sensibly, ensuring litter and other waste is taken home, and maintaining social distancing.

Litter
Litter has become a great problem over the past two weekends. Litter and leftover food doesn’t just spoil the beauty of the countryside, it can be dangerous to wildlife and farm animals.

We encourage visitors to please take their litter home to dispose of.

Fire Risk

Thursley Common wildfires over the weekend
This video footage shows the devastation of the Thursley Common wildfires over the weekend. The cause of the fire is not yet known but we urge everyone to refrain from using disposable BBQs, having camp fires, and to ensure smoking materials are fully extinguished to prevent more wildfires.
We’ve set out some key guidance points for accessing the Surrey Hills over the coming weeks
