That's a trophy I'm quite happy for NickT to keep!
Another 4 weeks till i get an X-ray to see what they really got up to. I reckon another couple of weeks till i can get back in the garage to work on the bike...

Just out from my surgery, leg still numb, maybe the morphine is still running through the veins as the promised pain is yet to set in.

Surgeon found me knee was in a bit more of a mess than first thought. As well as a ruptured ACL, I had a tear in my meniscus. Surgery was a success so hoping I make a full recovery. Cared for by brilliant NHS staff.

Six weeks in this monster brace and no trail riding for 12 months! Suggestions as to what I should do with myself?

It is with regret that I make my first nomination for the Surrey 2018 injury of the year award....

Mr Murray Laban (ex Scottish 6 days trials entrant) was injured on the trail in treacherous conditions in the Spanish wilderness whilst participating in a trail riding adventure with 4 other Surrey TRF members.

I understand from Muzza that he was cruelly thrown from his KLX whilst crossing a flooded out dip which had hidden obstacles beneath the murky water. A misplaced dab and the KLX landed on his leg and he has broken his tibia into many pieces, which I understand the consultant described as being like a puzzle :o

However before poor Murray was able to get the full diagnosis, the rest of the lads had to get him on the bike for an epic (and I am sure very painful) ride of some 4km of trail and a further 12km of road before they found a small town with an emergency room. From here he was taken to hospital 20 mins away by ambulance and is now residing in Huesca hospital with family and hoping to be repatriated on Tuesday (this happened on Sunday 3rd June).

Murray has given me a provisional figure of 39 staples in his leg......

If you have Whatsapp or Murray's mobile number - do text him (I'm sure its in the members section) as I am sure he will be grateful for the distraction

Thanks Gav for the nomination.
Just to let you know I'm doing ok and being well looked after by the Spanish NHS. The main problem is that being in a provincial city at the foot of the Pyrenees hardly anyone speaks any English and I don't speak Spanish but I'm learning fast (thanks MS Translate). Most of the time I don't have a clue to what they are about to do to me. No foreign nurses here all Spanish although I think some of them used to have jobs in the bullring fighting the bulls. Most of them are lovely and we have a laugh. No pressure on beds here either I'm in a room with 3 beds only 2 occupied all week. I came in last Sunday but didn't get the operation until Thursday. From what I can make out the surgeons travel round to different hospitals.
My accident occurred because I broke some of the golden rules of trailriding.
1 if you don't know how deep the water is check it first.
2 if you don't know what's in the water check it first.
3 ride through the water sitting down it's safer to foot your way through and it's easier to empty out a wet boot than repair a broken leg.
4 try and go round it if you can.

Thanks for the messages,
Muzza.
