Tyre choice for total newbie

Postby scrumpynut » Sat Apr 21, 2018 9:00 am

Hi all, pick up my Kawasaki KLX250 on Sunday, now the bike needs new tyres so after a bit of help on what to use, my situation is I live in Ifield Crawley and will be riding on the roads to meet up with you chaps and then hope to join up on the beginner rides, was going to stick with some HD inner tubes for now but as this is my first enduro/trail bike I would not have clue on the tyres to pick, I know it is down to personal choice but any help would be a great help.

Hope to see some of you soon.

Maxxis IT M7304/M7305 enduro tyre. All round good tyre . Can be purchased from Derek of Simply Trail on this forum, for a competitive price.

Four of us have entered as a team in this event, all riding KLX 250's.

Yep, Maxxis IT have a harder compound, and larger tread blocks and as said they last a while, I've just come back from a 1200+ mile trail ride down through France on my 525 on Maxxis IT's, front still looks new and the rear about half worn and that's with me and all my luggage, pushing 75mph on the roads and plenty of rocky trails.
Off the beaten track!.

Thanks all, do you all fit your own tyres, never done it before and as yet have no tools to do so.I need to buy levers etc to carry with me but do you need a wheel changing stand at home for when the tyre has to come completely off.

will contact mudeevee for a price.

Most folk change their own tyre's, it's good practice for when you have to do it on the trails, there are a few different ways of doing it, once you get it wheel off tyre changed and back on should only be about 15 minutes, if you find your struggling then your doing something wrong, I use a mix of 50/50 water to window cleaner as tyre lube as it works as a lube when wet, then drys to a power.
Off the beaten track!.
