Motorcycle Servicing/Repairs & MOT stations

Postby GDAS » Mon Dec 10, 2012 7:50 pm

I'd made some notes from this thread on the old forum so I thought I'd try and repost the information plus add my own recommendations.

D&V Motorcycles 07973 471118 - The 'D' is David Higgins and the 'V' is his wife (just in case, like me, you felt the need to know :D ). Recommended by Wurls (Andrew), I recently got David to do a few jobs on my KTM and to MOT it, all of which he did very efficiently. If you're looking for something cheap, he's possibly not the one, but he offers a first class service whereby he'll come in his van and pick up your bike at a time to suit you, take it away to his workshop and work on it, MOT it if necessary (he's a qualified MOT tester and uses Steve Jordan Motorcycles facilities in Leatherhead to do the MOT), keep you informed by phone of anything unexpected, and ultimately bring it back and hand you the bill.

Mirek 07966 611779 - recommended by Luke B (I think), Mirek's a Polish guy based I believe near Box Hill, reputed to be very reasonably priced and knows his stuff. Not sure if he does MOTs, would suspect not.

Normandy Motorcycles, nr Guildford 01483 235388 http://www.normandymotorcycles.co.uk - recommended by Gavinski and I've used them myself a few times in the past, these guys do MOTs and servicing/repairs, they used to be trail riders themselves, as Gavin says "Proper old school outfit, Pete & Jason are the "daddies" for keeping bikes on the road for a realistic budget"

There were a few other bits and pieces from the original thread that I've probably missed because they're not in my local area. Anyway, hope this helps,

Graham

I have used Motoward in the past and found them excellent. Contact there is Martin. They are a Yamaha dealer for those of you a ride blue ones!! Found them to be very reasonable on labour and parts and did a great job on my bike.

Good reprise Graham, thanks.

(Incidently and OT the "Wurls" name was always a spelling mistake on my part. Was always suppoosed to be "Burls". Advantage of the new forum I guess!)

Anyhow, I've used 2 out of the three above and all do the biz.

All you need for regular maintenance in Surrey IMO.

On this recommendation I had my forks serviced by Dave (quoted). But am having them looked at again, this time with Luke B, as there's a fair bit of sticktion preventing smooth operation.

Have left them with Luke B this time who, so far after disassembly, has pointed out a part that's actually missing.

Dave is probably not a chap you should use for dirt bike servicing as they are a bit more specialised than slapping an MOT on it. To be frank, the bit was obviously missing and if I could spot it from a picture, having never taken forks apart, it was a big oversight :S

Just for clarification I have not recommended anyone, not sure where you got that from.
I never use anyone else as I do it myself.

No worries, Luke. It's clear (I thought) from my quote that GDAS recommended Dave.

Have amended my post to try and make it clearer to people who aren't on the spectrum. ;P

For the sake of balance, I've used D&V many times without issue as have others.

Have just had my forks back from being serviced by Luke B, after the service from D&V which was... Not good.

Stiction is gone and they're working well :) cheers Luke!

If you need someone a little further north Mac Motorcycles in Tooting for those London based. I've taken bikes there for 10 years or so and always found them reasonabley well priced. Always very down to earth, do MOTs and willing to be a touch creative if needed. Two mechanics there, Gary being my mechanic of choice and Paul the owner is pleasant. Particularly if you complement his fancy keyrings.
