A short ride round the snowy lanes today

Postby newsh » Sat Jan 19, 2013 4:20 pm

Did a little recce from Coldharbour across to Wotton Hatch and back. Progress was slow, any amount of throttle would spin the back up and even riding at a neutral throttle the bike would basically slide sideways into the lowest part of the track. Anyway it went reasonably ok so I thought I'd have a go at Leith Hill from the Forest Green end.

Conditions were tricky, ice under a little fresh snow and half way up the gulley the rear started to spin. I got up the steep part at the top by standing alongside the bike and kicking fresh snow and leaves from the bank under the back tyre and then pushing the bike forward a foot at a time with a tiny amount of clutch. Traction of tyres was slightly better than my Tech3s though, in order to stay standing I had to kick steps  Having got to the easier part at the top it got even more slippery and I couldn't even pull away on the near flat, gave up and went back down with engine off using the clutch as a back brake.. At one point a landrover pickup arrived and the two guys sat in it and watched me push my bike up the steepest section, I hope they were nice and warm in there, I certainly was.. They went past me and a bit further up they slid sideways into a ditch.. 8-)

Sounds fantastic!

Looks fantastic too. Orange against white looks really nice.

Was it really as hard as you say? I'm going on a ride tomorrow to unfamiliar lanes so should be quite a laugh!!

Starting at Puttenham so if its as ludicrous as you say by Hindhead I guess our group will be due some reevaluation lol.

Glad you had a good time mate! Great pics!

It was definitely tricky but ok if you take it easy, just don't accelerate or brake

Very good pics. Wish I could get down there while the snow is still around!

Love the pictures, very jealous, but also thankful I stayed at home today.
