Closed until 24th of September 2019 BOAT 92A Thursley

Bumped back up as this lane is actually closed until the 24th of September not the 4th as I originally thought

I saw a comment on a Whatsapp group about some work being done on the lane from Thursley heading up to the Hindhead lanes. So Andy and I checked this out yesterday. Most of the lane heading from the stream up to the cottage has been filled with chalk rubble and blocks. It’s well done and the workmen’s vehicles are still at the top of the lane so they may not be finished.

This lane is officially closed until the 4th of September, however the restrictive plastic mesh has already been removed, both ends

Please avoid using this lane until the work is complete. It is only a short road ride to avoid this lane and not long to wait until it is open again.

I stopped and had a chat with the lady who lives in the cottage at the end of the lane, nice old lady, very supportive of trail riders, not very happy with the hopefully few riders who stop at the top by her house and shout and rev their bikes. She was not at all happy with the people 2 or 4 wheels who took the barriers down and used the lane before the works were completed, hopefully it was not a trf member, i explained who the trf are and what we do, she seemed very interested and supportive of of us.as Pete said please try and avoid the lane until it's reopened, if you see the lady stop and have a chat it can only help us.

Had a ride out on Saturday and came across this lane. Made a U-Turn and detoured via Thursley. There is no obvious way around for motorcycles, once you get there, but it is a road ride to meet up with the nearest open BOAT to Hindhead / Punchbowl - via Dyehouse Road

Also please stick to the Byway and not the Bridleway that runs around the back of the house.

Just an FYI this lane has been opened up. The section from the River to the houses - DP side is like a fresh tarmac road. brand new, hard packed sand+gravel surface.

The section on the Thursley side of the river is still rocky / technical. All works signs and notifications have been cleared. I didnt see any further notice boards about fixing the Thursley side.

So they graded the other side perhaps 7 or 8 years ago, to the same standard, and with the rain it is gradually reverting to its rocky step glory.

passed it today, did not ride it as assumed it was still closed , so took the long route via Thursley village, there was no sign of ongoing work. bc
