Riding Covid Safe

Riding Covid Safe

With the relaxation of some of the lockdown measures, more people are choosing to go out riding.

Last week all TRF members received an email with advice for getting out motorcycling, which was prepare along with the Motorcycle Action Group, British Motorcyclists Federation and Vintage Motorcycle Club.

This can be viewed at this website: https://mailchi.mp/trf/covid-160520.

In summary, the current advice of the Coalition of Motorcycle Groups is:

● As lockdown measures are eased, whether you ride for essential reasons or just for recreation, observe social distancing and good hygiene measures at all times to help halt transmission of the virus.

● Ride alone, (other than members of your own household), or with at most one other person.

● Stop well away from other people. Take food and drink etc with you.

● Be COVID-safe at fuel stops.

● Do not gather in crowds.

● Know what COVID safety kit you are going to take with you and use it sensibly.

● Plan your route so you can always return home safely the same day.

● Know how you are going to deal safely with any emergencies.

● Do not ride at all if you or members of your household have symptoms and need to self-isolate.

● Think carefully about the risks if you are over 70 or have a pre-existing condition.

● Don't damage the image of motorcycling in the lockdown by riding irresponsibly.

● Be aware that at present the guidelines for leaving the house for other than essential reasons may be different in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Responsible trail riding in groups of up to six is now permitted...

From TRF Directors:
Legislation.gov.uk has now published The Health Protection (Coronavirus, Restrictions) (England) Regulations 2020 as updated by today's amendments
If you follow the link and select option to view "latest available" version, the current legislation is displayed.

The main change is to regulation 6. This originally required persons to remain at the place where they lived unless they had a reasonable excuse to leave. Regulation 6 no longer requires persons to stay at home and now places a requirement for persons not to stay overnight in a place that is not their home, unless they have a reasonable excuse.

Regulation 7 is changed to allow for gatherings of up to 6 persons from different households in the outdoors.

Trail riding responsibly in groups of up to six would not contravene the english requirements. The Welsh requirements are different.

Dear All

My interpretation of yesterday's announcement is: that we should all stay at home, however one exception is for exercise and recreation; when you may meet up to one other person from another household.

We established during the last lock down that trail riding is a form of recreation.

I think it is pretty clear that group rides involving people meeting from multiple households and riding together will be a breach of the law. So groups of 2 maximum.

Unfortunately this means TRF group runs of more than 2 shouldn't go ahead from Thursday onwards, until the restrictions are lifted, providing what's been announced becomes law.

I am anticipating there may be formal TRF guidance issued in due course.

The above is just my interpretation, which I'm sharing in my capacity as Chair of the Surrey group. I suggest everyone should interpret/decide for themselves.

Let's hope those glimmers of blue sky which the PM mentioned at the end of his speech become rays of sunshine sooner rather than later! The blue sky and sunshine are always there, behind the clouds.

ACU instruction:
FULL WEBSITE LATEST NEWS LATEST EVENTS
Coronavirus (Covid-19): National Lockdown 5th November – 2nd December

Covid-19 infections are rapidly increasing across the whole of the UK and in other countries. Listening to the Scientific evidence, the infection rate is doubling every nine days. As such, the UK Government has ordered a second national lockdown for England which will take effect from Thursday 5th November until 2nd December.

So, in terms of motorcycle sport, where does that leave us? The answer is straight forward with no ambiguity. For the period of the national lockdown, all ACU activity in England which includes competition, practice or training should not take place. Any ACU permit issued for activity to take place during this period is cancelled.

Everyone must do their bit to act now to help in controlling the spread of the virus. The single most important action we can all take, in fighting coronavirus, is to stay at home, to protect the NHS and save lives.

From Thursday 5 November until Wednesday 2 December, the Government is taking the following action:

Requiring people to stay at home, except for specific purposes.
Preventing gathering with people you do not live with, except for specific purposes.
Closing certain businesses and venues.
Until Thursday 5 November, the relevant local Covid alert measures will continue to apply in the area where you live. Then from Thursday 5th November, the new measures will apply nationally for four weeks up to Wednesday 2 December. At the end of that period, the UK Government will look to return to a regional approach, based on the latest data.

For those living in Wales, Scotland, the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands you will be required to follow the guidance/advice/rules issued by your devolved governments and as such ACU/SACU permits issued for events to take place in those areas will apply as per the local rules.

Roy Humphrey, ACU Chairman commented ‘We live in an ever-changing situation and it is important that we all keep up to date with Government guidance / advice. The latest announcement made by the Prime Minister was expected, so we need to adhere to what has been said. I want to thank all our Organisers for their efforts, their flexibility and their adherence to UK Government and Covid advice issued by their Local Administrations. Let’s see what happens in a month!’

Latest guidance on the restrictions

https://trail.trf.org.uk/2020/03/24/cor ... V109iHCcVQ

The Coalition of Motorcycling Organisations (Comorg) has responded once more to changes to the Covid-19 restrictions. The national lockdown for England commencing from 5th November rules out group and recreational riding outside of essential use.

The core detail of the guidelines remains unchanged, but the group riding guidelines are suspended in England until the new restrictions relating to Covid-19 are lifted.

Welsh restrictions are set to ease next week, but Northern Ireland and much of Scotland have travel restrictions affecting motorcyclists as well as drivers.

The Guidelines joint authors, Richard Gladman of IAM RoadSmart and Roger Bibbings of the Vintage Motorcycle Club, have chosen to leave the majority of the guidelines unchanged whilst emphasising that motorcycling is only permitted for essential travel purposes in England and therefore all group riding in England is prohibited.

As the other administrations alter their restrictions it is important that recreational or group rides are conducted in accordance with local restrictions.

Richard Gladman, Head of Driving & Riding Standards & Product Development for IAM RoadSmart, said “The spirit of the restrictions is clear. The members of the Coalition are all agreed that now is not the time to be seeking loopholes or ways to bend the rules. We are all passionate about riding, but we all have a responsibility to help reduce the spread of this virus.”

I think, to be totally clear on this, that leisure non- essential trail riding is off, for the time being,

https://www.bmf.co.uk/news/show/recreat ... w-measures

The Coalition of Motorcycling Organisations (COMO) has examined legislation and guidance for the new lockdown in England. If you are not required to self-isolate, the rules do permit riding alone or with one other individual. You are still subject to the social distancing rules and other measures.

Many riders have been asking whether riding alone is allowed under the new lockdown rules. The government has clearly stated that riding as essential travel is allowed. We looked into rules on riding for leisure and mental well-being, which are not so clear.

We have studied both the legislation and the guidance and have concluded that the rules do permit riding for pleasure, alone or with a mate.
You can ride for recreation on public roads so long as you are:
- on your own
- with one person from another household, or
- with the people you live with (your household) or your support bubble

Bikers congregating in groups is not allowed under the legislation and will draw unwanted attention, as will any reckless riding. Please use good judgement and avoid any action that will adversely affect the reputation of motorcycling.

We will publish a revised version of the Covid-safe motorcycling guidelines once we understand the situation after the current lockdown period expires.

The Coalition of Motorcycling Organisations membership consists of representatives from the British Motorcyclists Federation (BMF), the Motorcycle Action Group (MAG), the Vintage Motorcycle Club (VMCC), the Trail Riders Fellowship (TRF), IAM RoadSmart, the Auto Cycle Union (ACU), the Triumph Owners’ Motorcycle Club (TOMCC) and Biker Down UK.
