Hi from Putney/Barnes

Postby Tim Cullis » Wed Apr 03, 2013 7:57 pm

I've been riding offroad for some time but mostly outside the UK using lardy bikes such as BMW 1200GSA, Tenere XT660Z and BMW F650GS twin. After failing to ride through deep sand in most dramatic circumstances a few weeks ago I've decided it was the heavy bike rather than me that was to blame, so I'm picking up a KTM 690 Enduro R tomorrow.

And yes, I appreciate many of you will think this is also big and heavy! I've joined the TRF as I thought it was about time I also learnt to ride in mud and on wet chalk... Please be patient with me whilst I tiptoe through the dirty bits.

I'm doing a Patsy Quick level 2 course this coming Friday and Saturday (keen, aren't I?) so that I can drop their bike rather than mine. So in theory I should be ready to rock and roll by Sunday. :o

Hi Tim and welcome.

I know of you from the ABR and HU.

The 690 is an excellent dual sporter that you will be fine on the lanes with.

Give me a shout when you want to go out locally.

Gavin

Hello Tim,

I might accuse you of sandbagging. I'm sure your many miles of riding in Morocco must have included crossing more than a few snotty bottomed rivers. Add to that, mostly lugging around on a Bavarian Supertanker, the local lanes on a 690 should pose no problem to you.

Warranted, you might not have much experience of wet chalk but why on earth would you want to? 'tis of the Devil's making after all. (I personally would rather poke wasps up my bum with a knitting-needle than ride on the stuff)
