Vehicle trackers anyone use one?

Postby Kilbs » Sat Jun 28, 2014 10:18 am

Hi All,
I need to look into getting trackers for a few vehicles for differing reasons.

1st is basic theft notification, as in when the vehicle moves from the designated postcode/area (during certain times or able to be switched on or off at will would be best)
it notifies all the relevant people (me, provider of service/police)

2nd is a basic tracking a commercial truck on its daily route round the country that I need to see real time where it is.
anyone have any experience in these? would like a one fits all like the "skytag" ones and available for domestic and commercial use.

Thanks in advance for any pointers.
Rich

SwiftTrak a subsidiary of GlobalTrak. Does what you want and my understanding is it covers you in Europe too which no other Thatcham approved will.

https://www.roadangelgroup.com/Tracking.aspx

I have one of these on my crf. (Bike Trac) Quite happy with it. Alerts me via text when it moves and I can track it online.

Not too expensive at £300ish

Hi had 3 bikes stolen so decided to get a tracker for my classic car if they came back for that. I paid about £20 from ebay, it is about the size of a small phone and could be hidden on a bike, simple wiring but not too feature rich, basically lets you see where your car/bike is via googel maps. That said I did not bother with alerts although some had this feature and even enabled you to imobalise the car/bike. The only down side is that it was fairly power hungry and would discharge my car battery in about 8 days if it was not used regularly. I guess you get what you pay for but it was a cheap footing into the market.
