Having recently rode a 06 KTM 300 exc I found it very powerfull and loads of low end power .

Leaves me wondering what a 250exc would be like ?!?
Lighter better in fuel but still punchy enough for the trails

Can any body enlighten me ?

Same weight I think. But the punch will be more than adequate. Stevie B rides a 200 and, when I rode it, that to me was perfect! Depends how you like your power.

300s tend to have more low down grunt because if that larger bore where as a 200 likes to be a lot more revvy for the same kind of grunt.

I like my bikes to feel exciting, and on occasion scare the shiz out of me. Ride as much as you can before you choose.

Not a lot in it weight wise, only a little bit better on fuel consumption, more than enough power for any type of riding really......

Both 250 and 300 Smokers are very tuneable anyway.

If you bought a 300 you'll probably be trying to tame it, which is easy enough via powervalve springs and further adjustment via powervalve adjuster.

Green Spring - More linear power (good for wet/slick conditions or learning/getting used to the power.....) - Powervalve fully open at 8400RPM
Yellow - More aggressive (what most 250/300 owners use) - Powervalve fully open at 7900RPM
Red - Hold on to your pants (Its very ANGRY) - Powervavle fully open at 7200RPM

If you still finding it a handful you can simply fit a mapping switch which basically softens the 2T hit. Further methods of adjustment - if you are still being a TART is fitting a slightly thicker cylinder gasket therefore lowering compression, but at this point I would say you've probably bought the wrong bike.......

I ride a 250 and the grin factor is off the scales! 8-)

Looked at a few one nothing has really grabbed my fancy as of yet
Got a sensible budget of 2.5k looking for 05 onwards to what ever my budget allows .

I've rode 06 300 ( friends bike ) gotta say very impressed nice bike and a grin ear to ear !
128 hours on the clock

I've also rode a 08 250 but this bike had a small back sprocket
And I suspect the mains were on there last legs ( sounded very rough )
So I left this well alone rather that take a chance .
Bike had 130 hours on the clock
