Help needed with Pyrenees trip info!

Postby Enduro ade » Tue Sep 02, 2014 8:41 pm

Hi All,
Is there anyone out there who can help with a couple of planning issues re a ride around the same area as the VINCE. I know some of you took part last year and remember the talk you gave when you returned. We are heading to Llavorsii for 5 days riding at the end of September as entering the VINCE earlier in the year is not possible for me due to work.
First question, how did you find the fuel situation ? I can't find a petrol station listed for llavorsi but have found 2 others which appear a short run in the wrong direction. Is there one in Llavorsi?
2nd question , I am using a SAT map syatem to navigate but also want to take a paper map to plan routes /backup. Unfortunately Stamfords the map shop haven't been able to get me a copy of the map I need as it has been out of stock for over 6 weeks and cannot guarantee that will be back in stock in time. Has anyone got a copy or original that I could lend/ buy. I believe that 1;50,000 sheet 26 Pallars sobira is the map Austin recommends.
I will be at the next club meeting if anyone could help with the map or spend 10 mins going over areas ridden, experience of llavorsi , best routes etc this would be very much appreciated.
Thanks Ade

Ade, get in touch with Austin Vince, he had an extra supply of the maps you can buy off him, he sent me an extra one for £10 which is roughly what they cost anyway. If you want the route map from the Vince event, suggest you ask Austin too, he may or may not want some ££s, but I think its only fair you source those from him given the amount of work he puts into researching them. They'd be worth it. His email address is here: http://www.austinvince.com/contact
There are petrol stations, you don't need to worry about that (the local use fuel too). However there isn't one in Llavorsi, its only a small village. You do need to plan petrol stops into your route though, when you go out riding, you don't just stumble on them. There is one north of Llavorsi somewhere although didn't go there. The nearest is at Rialp south of Llavorsi (marked on google maps) and then another one a kilometer outside of Sort, on the road to La Seu d' Urgell, then in La Seu d'Urgell (a couple there) and to the South West, at La Pobla de Segur by the train station.
The riding out there is absolutely fantastic, great trails, views, everyone if friendly / no hassle, definitely worth making the trip. Also good are the trails around Oliana, Cal Petit is a great hotel, my favourite out of the three I've stayed at down there. At Llavorsi you can go white water rafting too if you need a break from the trails, its not quite as dangerous as the trails though.
Next club night is 23 Sept so may see you there, that is if you're not already on your way out there.

Hi Steven, thanks for the info re petrol stations. I had found 2 on google but you never know how up to date these things are.
I have dropped an email to Austin so hopefully he will be able to help with the map. I will be at the next monthly meeting so I will catch up with you then if you will be there.
Ade
