Isle of Mann

Postby Corky78 » Thu Jan 22, 2015 12:59 pm

Hi all,

Been thinking of visiting the IOM to do some trial riding for a milestone Birthday coming up soon (ish) - couldn't make the recent ride over there with David Knight :(

On the web, there is loads of great lanes to ride, and looking at a map, it is looks fairly easy to navigate around etc (famous last words!)

I was considering going during TT week, but this is out now due to cost and availability of virtually everything! :o

So trying to work out when is best to go, if to use a trial tour guide (available on the island), where to stay that is a good base for safe parking/storage of bikes and close to a town for beers/food of an evening.

If anyone can make any recommendations, or offer advice from your own experience etc, it would be most welcome.

Never been myself, but remember that the TT isn't the only motorcycling event of the year there: http://www.iomfom.com/

Some people say that the August event is a more chilled, cheaper and better-for-spectating event than the June one.

I went on the practice week of the TT, best of both worlds. The trails are very well marked up, and there's plenty to see along the way, I went on a big bike, if your going on an enduro I would suggest getting a guide ( maybe post up on the National forum ).
Port St Mary is a nice place to stay, go and find the waterfalls, there's a few tucked away.
Here's some pics that I did on the Aprilia, just to give you an idea of the lanes, but there are plenty of more technical lanes as well. :D
