Everyone I know that's had one, whilst unable to defend it, does hold an amount of love for it. The electronic ignition will have to wait for the money fairies to come again, in the meantime my priority is tyres. If I'm ever well enough again to get off the sofa.

The exhaust is already banged up and leaky so I'll keep going until it falls off then get a new one. :)

If you go out with a group of 6 riders and 5 have to wait for you all day because you are on a totally unsuitable bike you are gonna be Mr Popular............................

There's an XT 350cc on the buryhillbikers forum for no money( 750 ), may be a better route to go down.

I don't have £750. And if people don't want to ride with me that's absolutely fine.

Me too. ive never ridden off road so want to try it out. If I enjoy it I'll look at taking it further but buying a new bike for something I may hate is a big risk :)

Tbh before coming here I was reading about a chap that used an etz250 for the MCC long distance trials. It was competent if not particularly competitive. The only essential difference between that and the 251 that I can see was the higher level exhaust. In fact that may be the way to go with the exhaust if it'll fit in the head.

And the sofa issue due to a chest infection rather than laziness :-p

I'm going to try and get the air filter off today to clean, see if that sorts the idling issue. If not I'll have to clean out the carb. Can't get tyres until back at work next week - our neighbours are difficult and if they try to deliver them to there it causes more agro than I can cope with.

Any delays are likely to be caused by rider more than bike. If it gets to the point where im causing people problems I will turn around and ride back to my van on my own. I'm out to have some fun not wreck the fun of others.

Please don`t take my previous post the wrong way (you will get used to me) all I was trying to point out is the bike is totally unsuitable no matter what tyres you put on it. The upshot of this is you will not enjoy your riding, probably do it once or twice and then give up. It will be the same as doing a couple of laps at Brands Hatch on your bike, you will not enjoy the experience as much as you could. I am sure you could join a newbies run to give it a go. Anyway, must go now as I`ve got an appointment at Watling Tyres to put some mousses and knobblies on my Fireblade...................................

I've been on t'internet for long enough to be used to most types of people and unsuitability is kind of my middle name. I drove to the Azerbaijan border and back in a petrol 1.6 Daihatsu that started overheating before we left London and Marrakech in an escort that ate its clutch in the hope it would just make it.

It didn't.

If I like it, I'll look at a more suitable bike but until then I have low expectations so am rarely disappointed.

Oh, and MZ club racing is apparently still quite popular.

Or were you offering to loan me a bike so I'm able to try it out properly? Lol.

Oli, sounds like you have a plan. Don't worry about Mr Grumble, he grows on you as you get to know him.
