As for Guildford Tyres, used them a couple of times. Would not rush back or recommend them because of the excellent service, but equally would not avoid or slag them off. They are an average garage doing an average job.

Explains a lot about your views of average. Still need help swapping plastics on your bike or have you got the knack of that now? Haha

But yeah, let's not detract from the thread topic, it's not about gross negligence. I'll have to watch what I say and tread lightly. I don't wanna put a downer on it, or you all to feel deflated! Barry will be be giving a speech, I hope it goes off with a bang and doesn't run flat.

That's not my only negative experience having booked in to get my tyres changed I arrived 40 min late due to traffic on m25 and a3 only to be turned away and spoken to badly. I made a complaint and they tried to rectify it - too late by then I gave my business to someone else.

I've only used them once (August 2015) but found GT to be pretty accommodating. They quoted cheaper for supply and fit AC10s than anywhere else and didn't mind me faffing about changing my tyre choice on the day. Good email comms beforehand discussing pricing and stock availability. Obviously I might have been lucky but my experience was good enough for me to consider using them again. Frankly I haven't found anyone who gives a flawless service; I'm generally miffed about something or other.

The Off Road night does sound interesting. As it's only down the road I might turn out on the off chance of meeting some people and learning something.

All the best.

Very interesting guys, from Pirelli / Metzeler. These guys really know their stuff, and shared really useful info on tyre choices, mousses, new designs, development etc with lots of advice freely given. Surrey TRF turnout poor. ie just me. You missed a good night!

Thanks Brian for turning out, sadly I was stuck in Canary Wharf providing a status report update....I know where I'd rather have been!

The comments on the thread are interesting and useful. Having attended an event there for Wey Valley Advanced Motorcylists (WVAM) Guildford Tyres are trying to build that bridge....whatever past experiences it's surely worth a second look. They are looking to the off-road guys to extend their business.

Given a number of folks are happily able to change their own tyres etc there are others (ME) who aren't that happy. I know that I will give them a chance with my bikes as and when they need tyres. They offer a discount card (10% I think) for WVAM members and I'm sure that can be extended for the TRF easily.

That said if your previous experience(s) are now in stone is there anything that could change that?

Happy to feedback comments and info to them without names etc. Maybe an option to get them to a club evening?

Thanks for your attention in reading my bleating comments above.

Steven

Hard sell or genuine advice? I rang Guildford Tyres to inquire about getting some Avon Storm 3D X-M's fitted to my Honda Blackbird only to be told there not made for that bike and would be better fitting PR4's, the fly in the ointment is that Avon say typical fitments for the Storm 3D X-M include the, Honda Blackbird, Suzuki Hayabusa and Kawasaki GTR1400.
Off the beaten track!.

If you don`t like their advice/recommendations just go somewhere else, it`s your money spend it where you are happy. Have you tried Heathland Tyres in Bracknell, excellent service, always a smile and a man who is passionate about tyres and customer service. If you mention Surrey TRF I am sure he will see you right.

P.S. Don`t mention my name.

Or simply tell them those are the tyres you want, your riding the bike and take the responsibility for the choice.

it would be interesting to hear who you actually spoke with.

It's not that I don't know what I want on the bike, in fact the're now fitted, it was was just the implication that they weren't happy to fit that tyre to a sports tourer.

Stewie, I've had the same over the years.all we want is the tyre of our choice that we are happy with.

I'm surprised you got the response you did, but can understand why you would go elsewhere.
