Guildford Tyres Off Road Night

Postby smccormick » Sun Oct 04, 2015 11:45 am

Hi,

An item to get into your diaries. Guildford Tyres, Chilworth, Guildford, Wednesday 21st October 2015.

Start time to be confirmed but likely around 6:30pm.

I just wanted to get the date of the 21st October in diary for or off road night. The guest talker will be Barry Urand who is the current head of Pirelli Off Road and was the old head of Michelin. What he doesn’t know is not worth worrying about. A full flier will flow asap. Please link us in on your facebook page. Ours is @gtcmotorcycletyres .

Any questions I the meantime please shout.

Thanks

I have a severe disdain for Guildford Tyres and I'd advise anyone who cares about their safety or their motorcycles to avoid them like the plague.

They pissed me about twice.

Once, I got a flat on the way home after a fresh tyre was put on, which Barry implied was probably my fault on the phone - nice!

I asked if it might have been the machine as I've know it to pinch tubes, especially nonradial. They said it was because the rim tape had perished (on a year old bike!?) and somehow didn't notice it the first time.

They fixed it without charge and then when I got home found my wheel was very out of alignment, brakes were binding, worn and burnt and my caliper had to be hammered off with a rubber mallet.

I was very cross as it's dangerous. I wrote to them and they never wrote back.

Just thinking about it is making me cross.

I'll feed this back to them if you like?

They are trying to build up their customer base and have reached out to a number of bike clubs in the area, Wey Valley Advanced Motorcyclists being one of them hence where I come in.

How long ago was the incident you talk of? Maybe things have changed a great deal since?

Just a thought anyway.

I sent the letter on 9/10/2014.

I tried talking to them then and not once since did they reach out. I don't see how trying now will make any difference.

Feel free.

Oh joy! I've missed your dry, sarcastic and delirious comments. Anyone who's seen my beemer or RVF will know...................................................................................................................................................

Who maintains your transport these days, Tellings Golden Miller or Southern Transit?

I went down there last week to have my tyres fitted and wanted to charge me £48 for a pair - they used to do it for £7.50 a wheel. Won't be going back there in a hurry.

Well come on guys! the idea is to attend a talk by someone who has some considerable knowledge of items of some use and interest to us: Whatever your personal experience of GTC, (Mine is good, and spans many decades), the idea is to listen to someone who might know a little more than any of us probably do- So put your personal views aside, and support this event. Lets leave the whinging to other places and other times. Thanks Steve McC for posting. bc

It is interesting to read of the the different experiences from you all and this is exactly what they appear to be asking for now.

They are looking to expand their business and engage different groups. If they're just too expensive they need to hear this. If they're crap at what they do they also need to hear this.

Worst case no one would use them, best case we feedback they improve, we get a better service and better price.

It's unlikely they're going to please all of the people all of the time but the talk from the head guy at Pirelli Off-Road would be worthy of a look in surely?

Anyway its out there, come along if you like, you're all welcome. :-)

Thanks for listening,

Steven

Is that the same RVF that we had to borrow some gaffer tape at Bury Hill to stick down your seat cowl ?
