New exhaust for my KTM 450 EXC-R

Postby Patt959 » Mon Dec 07, 2015 11:18 pm

Hi I'm new here and am looking for some suggestions for a nice thumping exhaust. Budget of around £250 as I don't think I should have to spend much more than that to get a decent sound.

I'm looking for a slip-on with a removable baffle (so I've been told). Main priority is nice and loud and thumpy for when I'm on the road and yet quiet enough for green laning.

Specific makes, models etc, links to reviews, anything would be really appreciated. I'm taking delivery of my 2008 KTM 450 EXC-R tomorrow. The stock exhaust just isn't going to cut it. I want to maximise the fun and get something that's going to give it a decent roar.

Thanks!

Pat

Hi Pat,

If you are looking for advice on a 'thumping' exhaust, I'm afraid you are in the wrong forum. The TRF are trying to keep Trail riding open for us all to enjoy - and one of the big 'enemies' of this aim is NOISE. So we try and keep the noise down when riding the few Green Roads that are left to us.

If you really do want to make some big noise, I'd suggest you invest your £250 on membership of a motocross club - away from Surrey please! However, if you want to find out more about the TRF in Surrey, come along to one of our club nights (next one is 4th Tuesday in Jan) or join one of our ride outs (non members get one free go). If your bike is making too much noise, you will be politely asked to bugger off!

Thanks

Derek

The stock exhaust is not bad on them. You won't in my opinion get much more out of it on a Greenlane by chucking an exhaust on it. And as muddee says it's frowned on here. Saying that my crf had a loud pipe on it and in the end started annoying me but couldn't quiet it down as it spat the baffle out all the time. Got rid of it for various reasons in the end but noise was an issue.

Thanks guys.

Not long after I posted I did think I was probably posting on the wrong forum...! Oh to be a novice.

To be honest I'm keen to join up and get out on some group rides and I am aware of the noise issues when riding the green roads and am all for keeping the noise down and maximising our opportunities to keep riding on the lanes so I have no intention of joining any rides with a loud exhaust. I do want something nice and loud for the road but not for the lanes. Having been out on my bike now a few times however, the stock exhaust seems ok so I'm not in so much of a hurry to change it.

I will certainly join one of the ride outs and I look forward to meeting you all.

Thanks again for the advice.
