What bike?

Postby ShaunGASGAS300 » Tue Jul 19, 2016 6:53 pm

With the current issues with the Gasgas I need to fix and sell and buy something else.
Need to get cylinder head redone. Looking at KTM or husky. However questions are.

What sort of price should I be looking at and what sort of age? Obviously depends on each bike but as a general rule. Also anything I should look at for when looking At them ect?

Thanks,
Shaun

What is the main purpose of the new bike? Enduro? Greenlaning? How much road work do you intend to do? How much maintenance are you happy to take on yourself?

Husky. Personally, I'd avoid the pre KTM husky's. If you went newer, then the husky a are basically KTM' s with linkage suspension (and a nicer colour).

What to look for? That's a tough one................
Probably better to look on TRF forums for sale - At least you know that the owner has had some advice during ownership. Whether that was heeded, depends on the person of course.....

Does it look 'well maintained'............. (See g-bru for sale post earlier this week for what a very well maintained bike should look like).

Ask what oils have been used? Does it come with a couple of air filters? (most owners have at least a couple, ready to change when needed).

Then the obvious.......... Does it start? Cold & Hot?
Does it sound ok?.................... Obvious cam chain rattles on 4T, a 'GasGas' noise on a 2T :)
Does the lecky button work? 3 times in a row.............

Don't be embarrassed to ask loads of questions - who did the maint on the bike, where did they dispose of oil? Tubes/HD Tubes/Mousses/Tubliss? Tyres OK?

Then log book and checks to make sure it ain't nicked.......etc......

Good luck!
