Thanks for all the offers of help. Just been told that it looks like it's the starter relay/solenoid that's faulty, so a new one has been ordered and is covering under warranty. Hopefully will only be a few days off the road.

Hi
Bike back and now working. He has shown me what he had to replace - lucky part was under warranty, but labour wasn't! He also advised me to fit a mudguard as the Beta doesn't have much protection up front and to clean air filter after next run! Will look out for next beginners run.
