Run Leaders
Always seem to be short of people to lead runs, not really to `crisis`point yet, but it would be nice to have some new faces/someone in reserve.Ideal situation is to have two leaders on a run, one as a back marker who could take over leading if number one leader has a problem. Happened to me the other week and I ended up with a group of ten riders,in this case it was OK, but not ideal. I have a list of about fifteen people in my head who are more than capable of leading, but of that list only half regularly lead but I know if I gave them a nudge they would all help out. BUT we do need new faces. We have 206 members in the Surrey TRF and about seven or eight people who lead regularly, look on the Rides and Meets always the same names. SO why not have a go, it really isn`t hard, no special training and you are NOT responsible in any way for the people you are leading. So please have a go, you might enjoy it. If you have any questions contact Sharpie,Simon or Me. If you would like to have a go and would like one of us to back mark for you that would be fine. There are plenty of GPS routes on the forum or you could use good old maps, again if you want help on planning a route contact one of us. So lets see lots of names to add to my list............................................

Re: Run Leaders
Just too add. If you look on the main TRF website there are some great tips on how to plan and lead a run and you will get fantastic support from the current run leaders

Re: Run Leaders
Hi,
I have just added our TRF Run Leading Guidance sheet to the Runs section of the forum.
I am happy to train and take out prospective run leaders, so you can have a go in safe environment before you lead a ride. I can show you how to plan the routes, some good routes, you can have a go at map reading and leading. Let me know if you would like to try.
As Steve B says, do not hesitate to ask us and we will help you.
I will be organising rides when i get back from Devon.
Cheers
Steve

Re: Run Leaders
I'd be happy to have a go at leading a run but as I've not done it before, I'd like a bit of guidance before hand.
I'm old skool so have marked up maps and have done a couple of short hand directional maps that I prefer to GPS/Sat Navs etc.
I've read the guidance notes that Steve Sharp posted up, which are very good, but I guess it's just a final confidence builder that I would prefer in a "run leaders run" to ensure I've got all the basics covered etc.
I couldn't make the last one so if there is another one going that I can make, I'd like to go on that first before going it alone (I do appreciate that a back maker would be experienced so would help me on the day too
)
I've been out of the country a lot recently for work, but not planning to go anywhere now before Christmas, so hopefully I can fit in around anyone willing to take me out - and I'm not frightened of rain/wind either - the muddier, the better as far as I'm concerned!!!!
Cheers

Re: Run Leaders
Hi Corky,
I can take you out and hopefully some more might be interested.
I'm off to Devon this weekend, but free after that. PM me with some dates that you can make. I will need a weekend to prep the bike, no lights in my garage, so let me know from the 16th November onwards when your free and what area you live near, and what area you would prefer to start leading from.
I'm also going to show Chris Bunce some routes on maps so he can start leading. This will be in a pub, so you may want to come along to this as well to help build some routes up.
If anyone else would like to take part please contact me...
Cheers
