Urgent help re bent/cracked TTR subframe!

Postby Scotty72 » Sat Jun 01, 2013 5:02 pm

Hi All

I have just back from my first trail riding ride and it was bl@@dy great fun on my 250 TTR! :D

However...i managed to flip her . Her bum in now banana shaped :o . I have looked at the sub frame and looking from the rear it is bent and possibly has a crack. On the left side, from rear, there appears to be a bolt holding it to the main frame but on the right side it appears to be welded...help, can it be unbolted and a new one bolted back on?

My TRF newbie run next Sunday is at risk!! :(

UPDATE: right, I have uploaded close ups of the damage to the frame, the left side tube is indeed fractured and the right is 'just' bent. According to the 250ttr forum I'm looking at welding/pulling/cutting and replacing etc (probably praying..) as the subframe is welded on, tell me one of you are handy with welding and frames??!!

No they are half way up Firgrove Hill, if you are coming from the town, over the railway bridge and immediately right, Google Elderfield motorcycles for full details, phone no etc.

Right, I'm dropping off the bike tomorrow to a bike builder friend who I hope will perform strange mystical magic on the sub frame and I will pick it up Saturday where I hope it will look more " standard ".

Ive collected her and the sub frame looks as good as new (almost..).  It was a b*gger to do but a big thank you to Steve at Red Max!! (Google the name if you fancy a unique flat tracker or Cafe racer ) :D

Now all i have to do is not flip her ever again...
