DRZ400 owner needed in SW London

Postby Lemon » Mon Mar 31, 2014 5:14 pm

I have a CCM 404 with a DRZ400e engine. The starter button does nothing. All works to the CDI unit. Bypass the CDI and the starter turns. Before I buy a new CDI would like to test my CDI on another bike.
So: anyone in or near South West London with a DRZ I can test my unit on...

Cdi should have sweet fa to do with the starter. You sure it's not the solenoid?

As B B says CDI is irrelevant to your problem (e&oe)

Just trace fault in steps i.e.

Power to button ?
Power from button ?

Power to solenoid ?
Power from solenoid ?

Don't spend any money yet, the chances are it's just a rotted connector somewhere.

You will most likely find that when you look at the cables they will be corroded. Clean them up and use some grease on them when you put them back. Would be surprised if it's any more than a bad earth or solenoid. (Solenoid £15 - bad earth free!) if you want a hand I'm in coulsdon.

There is power to the button.
There is power from the button.
There is power to the CDI and that's where it stops.
The solonoid is fine, the starter motor is fine.
There is a circuit from the solonoid to the CDI

What year is it? I'll get the manual and have a look at the wiring diagram.

What exactly are the problems?

Does the starter turn or not? If you bypass the solenoid and put 12v to the starter does it work?

the starter motor works ok.
All the testing leads to something in the CDI unit.
I have sparkies look and they all say it's the CDI but then everyone says the CDI units never break!
All I want is someone with a DRZ that I can plug my CDI unit into and see if it works - a simple test, take 2 minutes.
The problem is there aren't many DRZs around.
I saw one at Newlands Corner on Sunday but couldn't find the owner.
I'm carrying the CDI unit around with me ready to accost a DRZ or CCM rider

I think the DRZ shares a lot of components with Massey Ferguson.
