Gents, just picked this up from another forum.
Please continue your support and share this about.
"I'm new here with a purpose - to ask you to help fight the redevelopment of the Newlands Corner site. Surrey County Council (SCC) intends to replace the current cafe/visitor centre with a much larger one; introduce a coach park; construct unneeded pathways (including a 'play path') and introduce parking charges (but motorbikes will probably be free).
Some of you supported the petition against the changes a while ago. That was really helpful. But, one contributor to that thread said that the proposals were probably dreamt up by 'locals' to keep bikers out. This was unfounded and untrue.
We locals (I am one and not a biker) are working hard to oppose the plan. We want to keep the area unspoiled so that as many as possible can enjoy its simple beauty as it is. This includes you bikers. We really enjoy having you there, and the cyclists, and anyone else who has similar values.
We went to a meeting at SCC yesterday where they stated that the proposals are just a money-raising venture. We are all having to take knocks (you'll be familiar with pothole problems!) because of the cash crisis.
But please, if you haven't already, help us to stop the permanent despoiling of this lovely place by going to the 'savenewlandscorner.com' website, sreading more about the issue and, from there, signing the petition. If you live in Surrey, please find your councillor on the SCC website and write in protest to them. If not, you can still write to the Council Leader. Thanks for listening and, remember, you are always welcome at Newlands Corner. Keep enjoying the cheesy chips."
