Rear Sprocket

Postby edmondo » Sun Jun 08, 2014 10:14 pm

Always use loc tight or similar glue on the end of the studs on your back sprocket because if you don't they will get loose and shear off bits of you wheel hub which can be a pain in the bum when you are a few mile off road.

I tend to Loctite pretty much everything, a tube or bottle of Loctite costs a couple of quid. Seen to many people lose bolts, gearlevers, kickstarts etc whilst out riding to make it standard practice for me.

Always good advice, and don't forget to clean you hub flange, otherwise even with Loctite you'll still have a wobbly sprocket.

I've found a light application of rust keeps things in place.

Just spotted Stewie's advice on bike maint. Just wondering if this is a different Stewie?
The one I know can't get the back wheel off (actually 4 of of us could not). Did the AA man sort it ;)

Just goes to show, that not only did I not have a wobbly sprocket, I also had a secure rear wheel....
The AA man didn't even try just drove me home, where the correct application of pressure solved the problem.... ;)

Perhaps a silly question, but if you put Loctite on a screw... is it possible to remove (unscrew) the screw later? I am afraid of loosing any bolts, but more afraid of having one that cannot be removed!

Locktite blue. I put it on everything. Stops it from vibrating loose and undoes no worries. Just make sure you replace nuts and bolts that are showing signs of rounding.

Loctite doesn't mean super glue, there is a tube of thread lock called Loctite easily bought at Halfords. It is quite expensive at around £6 so anyone know where it may be cheaper please do let me know

Don't use the green one!!!!

Blue will hold any bolt, and crack loose without much fuss when Spannering. ;)
