Damage to front brake reservoir.. NOW WITH ADDED PICTURES!!

Damage to front brake reservoir.. NOW WITH ADDED PICTURES!!

Hi all.
Checking my bike over the weekend before the Alton ride and I discovered a collection of fluid in the right hand guide. Closer inspection revealed that there is damage around the sight glass and to the sight glass leading to this leak. Am I going to have to replace the whole brake unit or is it possible to replace just the top part of the reservoir body including the sight glass? I have no idea how this happened as my slow speed crash which lead to my broken hand was on the left side and it looks like something sharp and probably metal impacted the sight glass with no damage to the bar below and in front of it...very odd :? .

Advice please... :)

Not sure about yamahas, but on my KTM you can buy the lid separately, but the body of the reservoir is all one piece.

NB: you can buy the lid as a single part from Yamaha, Suzuki, Honda, Kawasaki, BMW and all other major brands for that matter, including KTM.

Worked OK for me.

Bloody hell you're unlucky ! seems it would be almost impossible to damage it where you have !!!

If the sightglass and seal are removeable, it looks like you could fettle the damaged alloy and re-fit.

I rang a KTM dealer today and they say that you can't replace the sight glass so it's a whole new master cylinder. £139.98 less 10% discount for TRF membership then £5.50 p&p, so a grand total of £132.58. Does anyone know anywhere with a better discount?
