DRZ400

Postby jimyu » Mon Mar 09, 2015 10:01 am

Selling my fantastic DRZ400. This a brilliant , go-anywhere, do-anything motorcycle - if you know about the DRZ then you'll know it's pretty much bullet-proof.

This particular bike started life in 2000 as a DRZ400SY from Suzuki dealer Orwell's in Ipswich where it had its first service in the August. I have the original service book, owners manual and Alpha Dot Pin Card.

During its life, it has undergone a steady transformation that takes it to, and beyond, the fabled 400E model.

Here's a list of the extras (please note this was all done by the previous owner so this is all I know of!):

Keihin FCR 39mm carburettor with JD jetting kit
Suspension from later E model giving better valving, adjustability and springs
E model larger diameter front exhaust section
DEP rear exhaust can (not too loud !! see Youtube clip here : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9n5VJXW2pKE )
E model base gasket which raises compression from 11.3:1 to 12.2:1 - makes a big difference !
Scottoiler automatic chain lubrication system
Renthal handlebars
1.25" bar riser kit fitted for getting "out of the saddle" !
side casing protectors
wavy front disc
aftermarket manual cam chain adjuster
heavy-duty CRD enduro bashplate and side-guards
air box modifications for easier breathing
K&N air filter
rear mudguard toolkit holder (more on that later)
front mudguard Wolfman bag (more on that later too)

The front and rear sprockets and chain were changed shortly before I purchased in Dec 2013 (I have the previous front sprockets in case the new owner wants to re-gear to suit their riding)

The properly sized number plate is included (to get you through the MOT !) and I'll also throw in a pair of Acerbis black MX boots that fit my size 9 feet + thick socks

The front mudguard bag (not in photos but is in the video) holds a brand new heavy duty inner tube that will fit both front & rear tyres for peace-of-mind whilst the rear mudguard toolbag holds a genuine DRZ toolkit + tyre levers + clutch lever + brake lever + tow strap + chain link + new clutch cable - almost everything you'd need to get out of a "hole" when out in the rough !!
It was last serviced in July 2014 by myself using genuine Suzuki parts and Castrol Actevo 4T 10W-40 oil. New Yuasa battery fitted and new Pirelli MT21 knobbly tyres were fitted then too (these are very good on the road too). I've only done around 300 miles since.

I have a spare 1 litre of the castrol oil which will come with the bike too.

I've had some superb fun on this bike and it is quick - if you can keep the front wheel down, not much beats it away from the lights! it has NEVER, EVER let me down.

The reason for selling is that I have only been greenlaning on the bike once in my ownership so have only really been using it for commuting. It has been faultless and endless fun but I’ve decided to go down the road only bike route now.

Previous MOTs and work done as follows
July 2010 MOT @ 13206 miles
August 2011 MOT @ 15895 miles
July 2012 MOT @ 17291 miles
August 2013 MOT @ 17570 miles
18 August 2014 MOT @ 18353 miles
MOT therefore expires 17 August 2015

Current mileage is 18,555

August 2011 - new rear wheel bearing fitted due to MOT failure

2012 - FULL service with the whole bike being given a thorough going-through :
brake calipers lubricated
front & rear wheel bearings adjusted
electrical check/cables tidied
throttle cable check/tidied
valve clearances checked/adjusted
carburettor adjusted/cleaned
cam tensioner checked/adjusted
oil filter and oil changed
brake fluid replaced
coolant checked/topped up
spark plug replaced

July/August 2014 – Service inc new front & rear Pirelli MT-21 tyres and heavy duty inner tubes fitted, new rear brake pads. New Yuasa battery

At the last MOT I was advised that the brake discs and front pads were 75% worn, so these will need changing at some point although there is still plenty of life left given the minimal miles I’ve done since the MOT.

So you can see, a tidy bike that has been well looked after regardless of cost and that has been repaid in reliability.

For a full walk round video, see Youtube clip here. The new Pirelli MT21 tyres have been fitted since that video was taken.
