Sunday 29th Nov

On Sunday Maino and I popped out for a few hours to check routes for the xmas runs. A couple of points that became apparent while we were out....

1. We've never seen the lanes so busy - particularly around the Hindhead area. We passed 3 or 4 groups of Trail riders (2 were Surrey TRF), a number of solo riders, quite a few 4X4's, a few quads, a couple of horses, cyclists, cross country runners and families out walking - busy times.

2. A few times we met riders coming from the other direction. On 2 occasions the meet was on blind corners and a collision was quite close. It was apparent that quite often riders are concentrating so much on making progress and choosing 'lines' that they forget they are on a highway with 2 way traffic. Also a good idea to have lights on as others might see you sooner - Just saying....

3. Solo riders - Not always a great idea, riding on your own. If you are reading this and you were riding on your own, consider joining the TRF and riding with people who will look after you if the worst happens! Just saying.......

4. Illegal riding - On Frensham, we passed a group of lads in a 4x4. They had unloaded a kwacker MX bike and looked like they were about to blat across the sand. I would have reported them to plod, but the lack of crash helmets and any protective clothing suggested that natural selection would curtail their activities. Maybe I should have reported them to save their own skins. Feel bad now. Just saying

Other than that, a cracking day and the lanes are in a wet but generally good condition! Happy days......

Just saying........
