Tubliss

Postby willie » Sun Dec 18, 2016 8:08 pm

I'm looking at getting the Tubliss system.

Has anyone installed it themselves and how did they find it?

What do people feel about tubliss? (Pro's \ Con's)

Is there anyone who could install it for me and how much would you charge. Feel free to PM me.☺

Thanks all

Willie,

I had the same question earlier on this year, check out my post.

If the link doesn't work then click on my forum name and view my posts.

For me it was the best option, I had a new bike back jn May and felt that most if the reviews were positive. In regards to fitting they are very simple and the kit comes with very clear instructions. ( A lot easier than moose) I did mine with regular tyre levers and lots of soapy water. You will also need a high pressure pump, something like a bicycle pump.

I bought mine from Gear4 motor cycles as they had them in stock at about £95 each.

Finally, I am happy to give you a hand fitting them, I'm in Haslemere. Just send me a PM if you want to talk.

Peter

I rate them too. Not completely safe from punctures but a lot better to ride with than mousses. I use them when riding locally as a puncture will not be too much of a big deal - if I were racing or when I go on an away trip then I use mousses. The high pressure inner bladder does leak a few psi over time, say 10psi a week (that may be my kak-handed installation though - others have not reported this problem), i.e. between rides... but as long as you pump everything up the morning of or the day before a ride you will be fine.

There is a lot of talk on the KTM forum as to whether tyre manufacturers intended for the tyre sidewall to take the stress of very low pressures often seen when using tubliss (one of the benefits)... but I have run 8 to 10 psi in various Michelins with no problems.

I looked at tublis but stuck with moose in the end. I couldn't quite reconcile the benefit of tublis over UHD Michelin tubes, given you can still get a puncture. The side wall strength issue that Dom mentioned shouldn't be a concern to my mind. The forces going through a side wall when riding are enormous. I just dont buy the fact that the tublis system adds to the side wall risk significantly. And the system is well tested.

This is a useful comparison of the 3 main options to avoid punctures;

Cheers for your help mate, I'll have a look at the KTM forums.
I think I'm going to go for them. I'll let you know if I get the same problem

Funnily enough I asked the same question on the Facebook group before Christmas.

I haven't used them yet and will most likely also buy and fit some in the new year too, so will be interested in your experiences with them ;)

An interesting point conveyed to me today was that if like me you run mousses and therefore have a tendency to hit square edge rocks and pot holes hard as you don't have to worry about compression punctures, when you go tubliss you soon realise that doing this can puncture the high pressure tube. Which sort of defeats the object of the things as it renders them useless. Just a thought. The person who I spoke to who had done 3 decided to return to mousses.
