New member but can't make 8th

If you want a 1on1 session, a particular ride date or a day in a specific area hunting lanes REQUEST a leader here, it might be filled :)

New member but can't make 8th

Postby chorleyboy » Wed Dec 05, 2012 12:19 pm

I've just joined the TRF and attended the last Surrey meeting at Nescot. Last week I didn't have a bike but now I do and I'm very keen to start (I last went off-road deliberately in 1976). Unfortunately due to prior committments I can't attend the beginners run on 8th December so I'm looking for someone who would be prepared to introduce me to the trails around Dorking area (I live in Epsom) and re-introduce me to the basics of off-road riding. Any Saturday (except 8th & 15th December), any Sunday (but after 12:30 as I play 5-a-side) or a weekday. Obviously any refreshments would be on me. Alternatively if you could suggest an easy & obvious route I could have a go alone.

Keep your eyes on the forum, runs are regular with most being on a Saturday. There are 2 types of rider…Beginner and Intermediate. If a run is announced that is going to be at a brisk pace, the run leader will identify that it is an Intermediate run only. All others, the leader will adapt the pace to those that attend

Thanks for the useful advice 'Fleegle' and the kind offer 'noeyedear'. I'm in the process of taxing the new bike so as soon as its fully road legal I'd like to take you up on your offer. I'll be in touch very soon.

chaps happy to join you on this for a gentle ride around Dorking - count me in Adrian. Mid week could also be good for me.

NormJoss is from Epsom also.
I know the run from Bookham (Admirals) to Leith Hill and I have prepared a longer route on OS Getamap which happens to coincide with the one posted by G-Bru in the Maps forum. At some point I will have a go at that but I am not a route leader and would regard myself as a beginner, although I have done a few offroad things (deliberately) in the last couple of years.
I might offer to join / help navigate a run soonish but I also play football (11-a-side) on Saturday afternoons so it would have to be a Sunday or midweek event for me.

Adrian - I could take a day off work any day w/c 17th December so if this suits you (and anyone else of course) then let me know and I'll book the holiday (I can cancel at short notice so no problem if your plans change). If this week is not convenient then how about 2nd - 4th January? Regards, John Taylor

Glad you found a ride leader.

You could, if you wanted to, announce this meet in the Runs and Meets section, unless you want to keep it covert :D

David - yes thanks, I'm really looking forward to it, glad I kept a couple of days holiday spare! Adrian has posted it in the 'Ride & Runs' section under 'Newlands 21st December'. Regards, John Taylor.
