Hi all,
My little KLX has done its job, it's given me a cheap introduction into off road riding and now I'm going in all guns blazing.
Been to size up a CRF and KTM today and decided to go orange. But now which one?!
250 or 500 exc?
I'm no expert but some say go bigger and no need to upgrade later, others say 250 as more manageable for a beginner.
Thoughts please?
Cheers
Paul

350 if new, 400 if used.

Nothing wrong with a 250 EXC on the lanes, plenty powerful enough and lighter too.

WR250F... Oh wait... You tried a Honda (what's that about?) and chose KTM soooo
In my opinion a 250exc 4t would be perfect for beginner. Light enough to pick up all day long and enough power to do everything we do including enduro circuits. Who cares about upgrading later? If you need to, do it and enjoy a new ride.
400s have more punch and are nice like that but really heavy when you go over and need to pick them up. They hurt more when they land on your foot and crush it too!!!! If you have good fitness or feel you need that punch god your a big lad and want a tractor I'd go for this over the 250 4t.
I'm with G-Bru if going brand new: if you are gonna get a new one, going for that 350 4t might be good and best of both worlds.
On the other hand if you want light and powerful and don't mind developing some new skills get a 250exc 2t. They need a bit more technique for riding but are the bees. There's just something about them.
I can't pick your bike for you but hopefully that helps you somehow?

Re: Going Orange!
Thanks for feedback guys.
I think I'm going to go for the 250. It will be new but the 2013 model as they are £1500 cheaper at the moment. As you say, plenty for the lanes and 6kg lighter so should be perfect for a relative beginner like me. Being a taller machine should also help my confidence to stand up too! (Although not been doing too bad of late)
Cheers for the advice
